My ANZAC writing

The Gallie Brothers

The Gallie brothers are both amazing people for what they did for this country. Who are they you might be thinking they are Oscar Eugene Gallie and Victor James Gallie. They were both born in Dunedin, Otago, Oscar was born on 20 May 1899 and Victor was born 23 July 1891. Oscar died 7 December 1917 and Victor died 21 July 1925, Victor died in WW1 from wounds and Oscar died in WW2 from wounds.
What did they do?
Oscar went to WW1 2/90 AWMM, Armed Force/Branch Army. His last rank was WW1 Gunner/Military New Zealand Field Artillery, D Battery, WW2 Captain/Military AWMM Royal Field Artillery, 156th Brigade, A Battery. Victor was ⅖ AWMM Armed force/ WW1 lieutenant/military/royal field artillery. Sadly he passed away from wounds that he got in the war, so he wasn’t able to go to WW2 with his brother.
 After the war
When they came home they both had wounds but Victor had much worse ones. The wounds that Oscar got he could at least recover from them and be able to go to WW2. But the ones that Victor got he wasn’t able to fully recover from them, and passed away many years later. So Oscar went to WW2 but died from wounds just like his brother. Their parents were devastated about what happened to their sons but at least they passed away from doing a good cause. Victor’s grave is at Karori cemetery, 76 Old Karori road, Wellington, New Zealand. Oscar’s grave is at Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
How did they honour them?
Oscar and Victor’s family wanted to honour them, so they had a memorial plaque that’s shaped like a shield from when their dad went to war. But since Oscar and Victor went to war they passed it on to them to honour them because they were so proud but devastated at the same time.. It’s called the Gallie memorial shield because it’s kind of a piece that represents their family and what they did. It was passed onto a school called Wellington College. It is awarded to the form obtaining the highest aggregate points at the annual athletic sports. So in conclusion, these people have done amazing things for this country and have represented their family and our country very well. We should all appreciate everything these soldiers did for us. Sadly they died but we will remember them.
